Inktober/Peachtober 2022 Days 10-16
More drawings and flummery about said drawings.
For my other Inktober/Peachtober drawings and musings, look here.
I enjoyed thinking up ideas for this prompt. I immediately thought of the fish lanterns my grandmother used to buy me for the mid-autumn festival (and how they always ended up in flames). This then made me think of sky lanterns in Thailand. I love the magical quality of floating lights in the night sky and wanted to capture that.
When I was done with drawing the lanterns, I thought, hmm, how can I make this more interesting? I added the girl's face to create a sort of double exposure image. I think it adds another layer of meaning and makes the drawing feel like a story or a memory.
This drawing (Field, image on the right) is the sister of the drawing for Day 6 (Trees, image on the left). I used the same idea of interconnected circles and four-sided shapes and connected them with swirly lines to indicate a sense of land/space. I made the trees in the back the smallest to give a sense of perspective. This was a fun exercise.
Day 12 of the drawing challenge, and this one was a challenge for me. The prompt is 'lava' and I couldn't think how to draw lava in its literal sense. I immediately thought of 'lava lamp' and drew some blobs. This was fun but it became really difficult to render the blobs to make them look like they are in a lava lamp so I just rendered the blobs randomly and eventually left three blobs unrendered, which in hindsight look more like lava lamp blobs than the other ones.
This drawing began with the girl's face; I added the fish because there were swirly lines behind her head. The girl's collar made me think of Victorian England which conjured up images of death and illness and so the tombstones. Funnily enough, I found out that the Victorians romanticized death only after I'd begun this sketch. Their art, clothes, beauty standards and so on were strongly influenced by the aesthetic of tuberculosis (consumption). So macabre and fascinating.
So much fun creating my own town for today's prompt. First, I love lonely castles at the top of mountains, so I started with a craggy fortress, then I drew the mountain it stands on and added a bridge. I imagine the bridge being used as an airstrip. Then came the houses. I'd looked at some photos of cave houses and had hoped to re-create them here, but they turned out looking more like desert houses.
Introducing Minerva Chatsworth, a matchmaking mama in Victorian England who believes herself to be sartorially and socially talented. Without her, there would be no advances in habiliment or in the marriage mart. A pox on those who disagree with her!Today's prompt is 'trunk' and you're probably wondering why this isn't a drawing of a trunk. It's because I gave up. I couldn't come up with anything interesting to draw. So I am posting a drawing of a character who appeared in my sketchbook instead.
